Maryland Search and Rescue Inc. supports and trains Venture Crew 616.  MSAR seeks to empower youth while developing leadership skills through Search and Rescue.

Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 years of age (OR 13 years of age and have completed the eighth grade) and under 21 years of age. Venturing’s purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Click here for more information about the Boy Scouts Venture program.

If you are interested in joining our venture crew you must attend our search and rescue meetings. At your first meeting you may be asked to introduce yourself, and at the end of the meeting you will fill out some paperwork such as a venture crew application.  All members need to meet training standards to be eligible for searches, but members are welcome to participate in the crews high adventure activities.

Venture Crew 616 is run similarly to a Boy or Girl Scout troop. It is run by the youth-members who are elected or appointed to various offices with the aid of adult advisors.

Adults and advisors of the program are there to provide transportation, guidance, supervision and serve as a resource in meetings, trips, and SAR missions. There are adult counterparts for each of the youth officer positions. They are also part of the Crew Committee that is responsible for oversight of the program.

Adults should complete all applicable BSA E-Learning training modules (where you will have to register an account) such as Youth Protection, Safety Afloat, Safe Swim Defense, Climb on Safely, and Weather Hazards.
